Stockist List

Having stockiest for my self-published books is an absolute delight!

It's incredibly rewarding to see my work on the shelves of bookstores and retail outlets, reaching readers far and wide.

These partnerships not only amplify the reach but also validate the hard work and dedication I've poured into my writing journey. Grateful for every bookstore and retail outlet that supports independent authors and poets like myself!

Worcester, United Kingdom

Born from the awareness that all communities need safe spaces, self-published authors struggle to find space in mainstream bookshops, local creatives have few opportunities to display their work, and pre-loved books gather dust in corners, Script Haven offers a home for these treasures. Second-hand books in pristine condition are donated to families and communities, made available to read in the Book Nook, with those worn-out tomes re-purposed into beautiful art.

The shop also provides a community hub and safe space for community / individual use, providing facilities for advice, counselling, education, with several local charities already making use of the space, and a social board is available signposting advice and support for all sections of the community.

With a café on site, people can sit and rest in comfort, with a freely accessible reading shelf to while away the stress of the day. Somewhere where all are welcome, with affordable refreshments or simply a safe quiet corner if that is what is desired.

The shop also plays host to various spoken word events in support of charities, book launches with both local and other prestigious authors, creative workshops – the list is wide and varied.

Also running via the website is a scheme supporting UK troops on deployment, believed to be the first of its kind specifically in the UK for UK troops – for the cost of a cup of tea (or coffee!), which is passed directly on to UK troops on deployment, our serving personnel are shown that people back home care. A small token, but one which really does boost morale for those serving away from home and ready to step in at a moment’s notice to help our emergency services. Salamanca's Independent Bookshop

About Us

The bookshop is a short walk from the city centre of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia; is close to the wharf; and on Saturdays we are surrounded by the buzz and the energy of Salamanca Market.

Our shop is warm, well-lit, has wheelchair access, is filled almost to overflowing with books, and is a vibrant part of Tasmania's literary community. We actively support the local arts and literary scene, hosting events, sponsoring competitions and opportunities, and offering discounts to members of the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre, as well as to teachers and librarians, members of the Playgroup Association, and to our own Members.

Our staff are a small and friendly group who love books, and are always happy to help you find something new to read. We can help you choose a book for yourself or a gift for a friend, and we offer complimentary gift-wrapping. We do special orders for books, either in person, on the phone, or online.

We are also a member of the Leading Edge Books independent booksellers’ group.

Our distinctive, black and white, hardy, cotton book bag gets around a bit. It caught the travel bug quite some years ago, and has since been all over the globe, including Antarctica...

Check out some images of the bag’s travels and see where it’s been so far.

We love to keep track of what our bag’s up to, so please send us your photos of the bag on its travels with you!

Welcome to The Hobart Bookshop. We are a proud independent and locally owned bookshop in Salamanca Square, Hobart, Tasmania. We sell new, and a curated selection of previously loved books as well as a section which specialises in Tasmanian fiction and non-fiction.

ABOUT

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we operate, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples of Meanjin, and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

History

Avid Reader opened at 173 Boundary Street, West End, Brisbane, Australia in September 1997 when Fiona Stager, Kevin Guy, Verdi Guy and Colleen Mullin decided that West End needed a bookstore specialising in new, quality fiction and non-fiction. Since then Avid Reader has grown from strength to strength with the help of our valued customers and great staff.

Avid moved to 193 Boundary Street in 2004 where we expanded our event space. We have frequent in-store events including book launches, signings, various book clubs and introductory nights for fledgling and established book clubs.

In March 2015 we moved the kids next door opening Where the Wild Things Are as a speciality book and gift store for avid young readers. Avid has become a lot quieter since.

Over the years we have won a number of local business awards and national bookselling awards of which we are very proud.

Avid Reader was named Australian Bookshop of the Year at the Australian Book Industry Awards 2021. We contribute and donate to a range of local, state and national community organisations.

We look forward to seeing you at Avid.

Fullers Bookshop was established in 1920, after the First World War, by W. E. (Bill) Fuller. Bill was previously associated with Walches and the booksellers Oldham, Beddom and Meredith (OBM), but eventually set up on his own shop. Ever since, Fullers Bookshop has been a central part of the bookselling and cultural scene in Tasmania. Bill published a Tasmanian Miscellany in the early 1930s, believed to be Fullers’ first publication.

In 1961 the shop was taken over by Cedric and Ian Pearce, famous not only as booksellers but also as jazz musicians. As Hobart grew and rents and locations became difficult, the shop became migratory; in Collins Street before the Cat and Fiddle development, and then to Cat and Fiddle. Cedric became ill and the shop was run down leading to the business being purchased by Ian Drinkwater in 1980. Ian moved Fullers to Murray St in 1981.

Clive Tilsley bought Fullers in 1982. In 1992 Fullers moved back into Collins Street. In 1996 the Afterword Café was established on the mezzanine level of the shop – this moved Fullers onto another level of business. In 2001, Fullers opened a second shop in Launceston where Clive spent 13 years establishing the brand in a very competitive book-buying market.

In 2009 the Hobart shop moved again – up the road to a bright new space (with a fabulous view of the mountain). In 2014, Fullers sold its Launceston shop to Volume 2 books, and at the same time, Clive moved back to Hobart.

In the 30 years under Clive’s guidance, Fullers has confirmed its status as Tasmania’s leading bookseller and a fundamental component of Tasmania’s cultural landscape. With a wide range of author events, readings, discussions and book groups, as well as publishing books on Tasmanian history and flora, Fullers continues to actively contribute to Tasmania’s literary community.

Petrarch’s Bookshop has existed in Launceston as a general bookshop since 1985, providing exceptional customer service across an ever growing range of books. Although it has been owned and operated by Peter and Rhonda Durkin for most of that time, Marcus Durkin has joined his parents in the business and is now the operational manager of the shop.

The growth of the business has been based on one major ideal – customer service.

Petrarch’s stocks a wide range of book categories, with special emphasis on Tasmaniania, gardening, cooking, architecture, health, art and many more.

Our friendly staff are all avid readers and are happy to recommend a novel, whether it be a new release or a classic from yesteryear. Our fiction categories include crime, fantasy, historical and Australiana as well as bestselling titles.

Our Children’s book section has quadrupled in size in recent years and we are delighted to attract readers from birth to young adult, for both gifts and personal reading.

Our Name: The name Petrarch’s Bookshop was inspired by the Italian poet Petrarca.

Petrarch's Friends

I have friends, whose society is extremely agreeable to me: they are of all ages, and of every country. They have distinguished themselves both in the cabinet and in the field, and obtained high honors for their knowledge of the sciences. It is easy to gain access to them; for they are always at my service, and I admit them to my company, and dismiss them from it, whenever I please. They are never troublesome, but immediately answer every question I ask them. Some relate to me the events of the past ages, while others reveal to me the secrets of nature. Some, by their vivacity, drive away my cares and exhilarate my spirits, while others give fortitude to my mind, and teach me the important lesson, how to restrain my desires and to depend wholly on myself. They open to me, in short the various avenues of all the arts and sciences, and upon their information I safely rely, in all emergencies. In return for all these services, they only ask me to accommodate them with a convenient chamber in some corner of my humble habitation, where they may repose in peace: for these friends are more delighted by the tranquility of retirement, than with the tumults of society.

- Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374)
